If you want to install a bathroom vanity unit, or replace your old one, the process is relatively simple and can be done by anyone with an inclination towards DIY projects and a steady hand. Some basic plumbing and carpentry skills are all that is required to install a bathroom unit. Once you've purchased the bathroom unit you want to install, or removed the existing one which you want to replace, it is just a matter of an hour or so before the installation is complete.
First, remember that you'll need to open up some water pipes which bring hot and cold water to your faucet or your wash basin. Turn off the water mains to these taps to avoid getting wet. Then, using an adjustable wrench, open up your hot and cold water supply pipes i.e. disconnect them from the wash basin. Once this is done, you can now start with the actually installation of the vanity set. Mark off where exactly the bathroom unit will be against the wall. Mark lines using a pencil after measuring the dimensions of the vanity set. Also use a pencil to mark where exactly the screws for the vanity set will go into the wall to hold it up and secure it in place. Once you know where your bathroom unit will be installed, the tricky part comes next. Determine where the supply pipes and the drainage lines will pass through the vanity unit walls. Mark these points with a pencil, and make sure you are accurate, because once you drill a hole in the wrong place, your vanity set is ruined. So once you've marked off the places where the pipes will pass through your vanity unit, drill a hole using a drill at these points as a pilot hole. Then, using a hole saw, widen these holes to about a half inch larger than the size of the pipes. Remember to drill halfway from outside the unit, and halfway from inside. This gives a uniform and clean finish as opposed to drilling from only one side.

Once this is done, you are now ready to install your bathroom unit. Place the vanity unit against the markings on the wall, and drill holes where you must place the securing screws. Once this is done, place the screws in place, and using a screw driver, fix them in place until they can support the weight of the vanity unit completely. Place your hot and cold supply pipes and the drainage pipe through the hole drilled in the vanity unit, and then reconnect them to the faucet and sink, taking care to ensure that it is a tight fit and no water can leak onto your new vanity unit. Once this is done, you are now ready to turn on your water supply again.Installing a bathroom vanity unit is a relatively simple job, and can be done with little or no trouble at home. This saves quiet a lot of money as well and brings some satisfaction as well for a job well done.
